Mapping room
What?
An approach where a physical overview of the work currently underway in the organization is continuously created and maintained.
Why?
There is a need to get an overview of what the various teams and functional areas are working on.
How?
One way to work with mapping is to dedicate a physical space to accommodate different teams' status, progression and progress. Here you use the walls to record various tasks, goals, dependencies, stakeholders etc. The room is then open so that everyone can enter and gain an insight into what is currently happening in the organisation.
Who?
The activity can be done by everyone in a group (at all organizational levels), but it is recommended to invite a facilitator along.
Value chain mapping
What?
The activity consists of a facilitated workshop, which can be held routinely, where the organisation's value chain is discussed and where representatives from different parts of the chain meet and share experiences.
Why?
It can be a way of creating an understanding of 'Why'.
The activity can be a way to create an understanding of what we each contribute.
It can also be a way of creating common language and insight. Knowledge and understanding can conversely help create more respect for each other's areas of responsibility.
How?
We jointly define end-to-end processes. Or customer journeys, with a pre-coded template for the facilitation.
The template may need to be adapted to the individual value stream.
The workshop can be designed and repeated at least once a year, or as needed. Representatives from the respective parts of the value chain present themselves and their contribution to the chain. Risks and optimization opportunities are discussed.
Who?
The activity should best be supported by a neutral (external) experienced consultant/facilitator, as everyone has a stake in the flow. Facilitator must be able to challenge and ask many 'h-v' questions.
